Orangeries

Orangeries are becoming an increasingly popular home improvement feature. An alternative to conservatories, orangeries have brick pillars and have a more substantial feel to them. Orangeries can be designed to feel more like an extension that a conservatory – without all of the cost and hassle.

Orangeries have more potential for enhancement than conservatories in terms of soffit features and built in lighting. Please call in to our Glossop showroom to see the beautiful orangery that we have on display.

Below are examples of some of the Orangery installations that Window Options has completed.

Orangery Installation – Chapel en le Frith, Derbyshire

This client chose an orangery as the idea of brick pillars appealed, giving an extension feel rather than a straight forward conservatory appearance appealed. We designed in some very pleasing pillar detail into this medium sized orangery. The orangery measures 9.9m in length with a 3.5m projection.

Orangery Project, Chapel en le Frith - Challenges

This is an open plan orangery design. It required us to remove the kitchen window and the original French doors, with the orangery running the entire span of the rear of the property.

For this specific orangery development we removed and relocated the soils stacks, manholes, rain water drainage and foul drainage. Special box guttering was also required to get around the existing brick piers.

We applied a 35mm blue exterior polycarbonate and opel interior polycarbonate orangery roofing system. The blue helps to kill the suns glare, the opel on inside helps to lift the light effect.

Orangery Installation – Gee Cross, Hyde, Greater Manchester

This orangery installation measured 6.8m x 3.7m projection. This installation involved cutting the garden back substantially and building a new retaining wall with associated drainage.

This medium sized orangery installation incorporates full height tilt & turn opening windows, with Georgian fret window inserts and external rosewood window sills.

We installed a self cleaning, blue tinted, toughened glass roof, with brick pillars and a box gutter.

This orangery was designed using our state of the art CAD Representation Software.
We often find that customers’ ideas of what they would like their conservatory or orangery to look like will evolve as they see the CAD representation and talk through the options with our knowledgeable showroom staff.

Orangery Installation - Sheffield

This orangery is attached to the gable wall of the house, the internal entrance into the orangery is from the lounge.

Construction features of the orangery are brick pillars and self cleaning toughened glass roof. Energy efficiency features of this orangery are argon gas window units and Pilkington K energy glass throughout.

Argon Gas replaces the air that is normally trapped within the sealed unit and as such is a very poor conductor of heat. The sealed unit therefore becomes more efficient, particularly when used in conjunction with either Pilkington K energy glass or Planitherm insulating glass.

The approx U value of a 28mm unit with Pilkington K glass and argon gas is 1.2 W/m2.K. In a standard 28mm unit without Pilkington K and without argon gas can be over 2W/m2.K.

Additional work on this orangery project included a substantial amount of garden work, including the installation of a retaining wall.
